Why title a dog?
Not just a brag, not just a stepping stone to a higher title, not just an adjunct to competitive scores, a title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honor the dog, an ultimate memorial. It will remain in record and in memory for as long as anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that regard.
And though the dog itself doesn't know or care that its achievements have been noted, a title says many things in the world of humans, where such things count.
A title says your dog was intelligent and adaptable, and good-natured. It says that your dog loved you enough to do the things that please you, however crazy they may have sometimes seemed.
And a title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time with it because it was a good dog, that you believed in it enough to give it yet another chance when it failed, and that, in the end, your faith was justified.
A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few; that in a world of disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved, and loved greatly in return.
And when that dear short life is over, the title remains as a memorial of the finest kind, the best you can give to a deserving friend, volumes of pride in one small set of initials after the name.
A title earned is nothing less than love and respect, given and received, and permanently recorded.

Sire: GCh. Ierne's Saltimbanco
Dam: Ch. Carnasserie Savannah
We co-own Orlagh with Jacqueline Keaton Carswell. She came to us from Carnasserie with her sister Spirit when she was about 4 months old. Her Daddy is Berrin. She's a vivacious young lady and when I'm with her a Mark Chestnutt song runs through my head.
She's got her daddy's spirit
Her mama's good looks
More laughs than a stack of comic books
A wild imagination
A canine education
Add it all up it's a deadly combination
She's a good squirrel chaser
A dynamite kisser
Country as a turnip green
She's got her daddy's spirit
Her mama's good looks
And look who's lookin' at me.
She's lovely like her Mom, clownish like her Dad, and a truly joyful personality. I'll add more pictures as she grows and begins her show career. This was only Orlagh's second show, her first being in the puppy classes at the Irish Wolfhound Association of the Garden State where she took second only to her sister in a large 6 to 9 month puppy class. She is Southern Bred, Southern Born and more fun than peas and carrots.

Violet began her conformation career at 6 months of age at our National Specialty, where she took 4th place under Judge Pernille Monberg in a large and very nice 6 to 9 month bitch class. Then she promptly lost her crown due to a change in the AKC requirements for registration. No matter! She began her performance career at 15 weeks at the Durham Kennel Club in their "Puppy Performance" class. The class exposed her to agility, rally, conformation, obedience, CGC and Trick Dog. Violet found that she liked them all.
Violet is a unique personality and we've partnered in many things. She is currently taking classes in scent work, agility, obedience and rally. She was the first Irish Wolfhound to earn the titles Scent Work Novice (SWN) and Scent Work Advanced (SWA). Both titles required she compete in four scent elements, Interior, Exterior, Container and Buried (the odor is hidden in sand for novice and water for advanced). The SWN title required she identify one hidden odor (birch) per search area. The SWA title required finding two hidden odors per search area (birch or anise). Three qualifying scores are needed at separate trials to earn a title, each qualifying score is called a "leg". She is a certified therapy dog through Alliance of Therapy Dogs, has her Canine Good Citizen Urban title, her intermediate trick dog title and her AKC Temperament Test (ATT) title. We've started in formal obedience and she has two legs toward her first obedience title. We've tried barn hunt and she completed her RATI (Rat Instinct test). The tunnel may be a challenge for her Novice Barn Hunt, Violet doesn't work for free! She competes in Fast CAT and has earned her BCAT title. Violet has completed 19 performance titles so far and has qualifying legs toward 4 more.
Violet was bred and is co-owned by good friends Eileen M and Eileen B Flanagan at Carrickaneena Irish Wolfhounds and is also co-owned by my friend and co-breeder Wanda McLain at Beannaithe Irish Wolfhounds.

(Clara)
DOB: 11/28/2017
Clara came into our lives when our good friend Mike Adams kept grumbling about wanting another Golden Retriever after losing his beloved Bonnie to Lymphoma. So when a puppy came available from a local breeder I took Mike to see the litter, a few weeks later he picked up Clara.
Bonnie was a wonderful Golden, sweet, patient and calm. Clara is sweet, but that's about all she has in common with Bonnie! Clara was bred by Dan and Susan Baker, members of the Durham Kennel Club. Her Daddy is GCH CH Gold-Rush Troubadour and her Mom is Westben Summer Breeze II, UD. Clara is a force of nature, always in motion, and has excelled at a number of canine sports. She is particularly good at Fast CAT, Barn Hunt and Agility. She will begin competing in agility once training classes start back up, and we can get her ready. She has started training for therapy dog, is learning to Dock Dive, and has already earned her novice dock diving title, we just have to work on her confidence when jumping. She is classically Golden Retriever, loves to retrieve, loves the water, and as you can see from the pictures above, LOVES the MUD! Watch for more pictures of Clara, we have some great ones from Fast CAT and Dock Diving I'll be adding soon.
